Provider description
The Soundside Junior Captains Summer Camp is a one-week, hands-on maritime education program for students ages 14 and up. Hosted by Soundside Cruiser in Fort Walton Beach, the camp provides practical training in boating safety, navigation, vessel operation, and marine mechanics under the supervision of U.S. Coast Guard–licensed captains. Students gain real-world experience operating both a 20–24 ft pontoon boat and a 45 ft catamaran while learning the fundamentals of waterway navigation, Coast Guard inspection requirements, emergency procedures, and environmental stewardship. Upon completion, each student earns their Florida Boater Education Card (lifetime certification) and logs documented sea service hours that may be applied toward a future U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License. This program supports workforce and career readiness by introducing students to the field of maritime operations and marine technology through an engaging, skill-based educational experience.
