Matthew Kibort
Provider description
I am a professional percussion performer and educator with over 12 years of teaching experience. I hold a degree in Percussion Performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, where I studied with musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I offer private percussion instruction for students of varying ages and experience levels, including orchestral percussion, band percussion, drum set, and Latin percussion. As an international percussionist, I have performed with many of the top ensembles in the nation, including serving as a principal musician with the Cleveland Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Lyric Opera of Chicago. I have collaborated with renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Tilson Thomas, and John Williams. I am currently a frequent performer with the Sarasota Orchestra and hold principal percussion positions with the Sarasota Opera and the Glimmerglass Festival in New York. I am a former principal timpanist with the New World Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the National Repertory Orchestra. My teaching focuses on strong technical foundations, rhythmic accuracy, musicality, and age-appropriate skill development, with instruction tailored to each student’s goals and learning style. Positivity and finding joy in music are at the core of my teaching philosophy.
