CocoRootz
Center for Urban Resource and Empowerment
Provider description
CocoRootz is a community-centered, nature-based education and wellness initiative rooted in the belief that outdoor environments, gardens, parks, and shared natural spaces offer powerful, multi-sensory learning opportunities for kids of all ages. Developed by the Center for Urban Resource and Empowerment (CURE), CocoRootz uses nature, cultural traditions, story, rhythm, and experiential learning as foundational tools for holistic human development. While CocoRootz as a term is broadly associated with community wellness, arts, and education programs connected to nature and culture, the micro-school concept in north Sarasota specifically emphasizes outdoor learning experiences, environmental engagement, and whole-child development similar to other nature-based microschool and forest school models. CocoRootz prioritizes regular engagement with natural environments rather than classroom walls. This may include: -Garden-based learning: hands-on activities in community gardens, growing plants and food, observing ecosystems, and connecting food and nature. -Environmental exploration: field activities such as nature walks, sensory education, ecosystem observation, animal and plant studies. Experiential play and discovery: child-led play that encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and connection to the environment. Seasonal and place-based learning: integrating local ecology, weather patterns, and landscape into our program ages 5-12
