FIRST MATE ACADEMY is the ONLY curriculum-based, youth marine education program of its kind providing hands-on learning and training for fishing, boating conservation and more. Additionally, we are Florida's only provider of FIRST MATE Certifications and training for the critical role of second in command. At FIRST MATE ACADEMY students earn a progression of FIRST MATE Certifications gaining immediate, practical skills needed to assist a Captain, become a good FIRST MATE and eventual achievement of a Captains license if so desired. ACADEMY and Specialty Programming (curriculum-based) is uniquely themed by various fish species and/or specialized topics. All learning is active and focusses on acheiving specific skills surrounding the designated program theme or specialty topic. “DRIVERS ED” of BOATING-Safe Boaters Prep Course: In-Person, hands-on boat safety training by FIRST MATE ACADEMY FIRST MATE ACADEMY is the sole provider of in-person training for the Safe Boaters ID Card. This credential is required by the state of Florida at age 14 in order to operate a boat or personal water craft (PWC). Unfortunately, Florida has NO REQUIREMENT for on-the-water experience or hours operating a water craft. We've all seen or know individuals impacted tragically by preventable boating and/or jet ski accidents. Truth be told, accidents are inevitable regardless of education or experience. Our SAFE BOATERS PREP COURSE will unequivocally minimize repercussions of such accidents.
