Product description

Dimensions Math 8B continues the Singapore Math approach for the second semester of 8th grade, emphasizing problem-solving through progressively challenging practice tiers. Each chapter moves students from worked examples and "Try It!" checks through Basic Practice to Further Practice, then extends learning with Math@Work (real-world applications) and Brainworks (higher-order thinking problems). This structure builds mathematical reasoning while allowing flexibility to match individual student readiness levels.

The 220-page textbook covers graphs of linear and quadratic functions, graphs in practical situations, Pythagorean theorem, coordinate geometry, volume and surface area of pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres, data analysis, and quadratic equations. Lessons incorporate mental math strategies and challenging word problems that develop mathematical thinking beyond procedural fluency. The full-color format presents concepts through visual models and real-life chapter openers that connect abstract mathematics to concrete situations.

Semester System: Dimensions Math divides each grade into two books—"A" for first semester, "B" for second semester. Both books are required for a complete school year. Each semester requires the corresponding Textbook, Workbook, and Teaching Notes and Solutions (which contains the answer key). The answer key covers Try It! problems and all exercise questions (Basic Practice, Further Practice, Math@Work, Brainworks) but not Class Activities or Extend Your Learning Curve sections. Students work in separate notebooks, keeping the textbook reusable. Note: Some activities reference The Geometer's Sketchpad; use the free GeoGebra software instead.
