Product description

Dr. Playwell’s Learning Self-Control in School is an engaging, fun-filled board game designed to help children strengthen self-control, decision-making, and executive functioning skills. Created by Lawrence Shapiro, Ph.D., this interactive game gives students the opportunity to practice thinking before they act—while having fun along the way. Through play, children learn to manage their bodies, choices, and behavior in positive, productive ways.

How It Works:
Players use frog markers to move around the board, working to avoid the distracting alligators that have wandered into the school. As they play, children answer questions about self-control and behavior choices, think about consequences of actions, identify good choices versus poor choices, and practice simple relaxation and calming strategies.

The structured format keeps the game supportive and predictable, making it easier for children to reflect and respond thoughtfully. Blank cards are included so parents, teachers, or counselors can create customized questions tailored to specific situations.

Why It Works:
Self-control is a skill that can be taught and practiced. This game supports development by:

Strengthening executive functioning skills like planning and attention

Helping children pause and think before acting

Encouraging awareness of consequences

Teaching relaxation and calming techniques

Providing structured social problem-solving practice

Because learning happens within a game format, children are more open to discussing challenges and practicing new strategies.
Contents: Game board, 4 frog pawns, 2 alligator pawns, 1 white die, 1 red die, 150 chips, 120 cards, instructions.
Players: 2-4
Ages: 6-12
