<p><b>American Sign Language 2</b></p> <p>In American Sign Language 2, students learn about the biblical importance of words and how the use of language reflects God?s character. Students foster their understanding of deaf culture as this course elaborates on the isolation and challenges of being born in a different-hearing family and how this demonstrates the feeling of being Christians in a fallen world. Students explore how two parallel cultures colliding is a picture of how the Bible portrays heaven and Earth. As students build upon skills learned in American Sign Language 1, they progress their communication skills. Students explore the vocabulary needed for shopping, making purchases, and dealing with emergencies, learn about classifiers, glossing, and mouth morphemes, as well as how to give descriptions and directions. They increase their proficiency by learning about sequencing, transitions, role-shifts, and future tenses. Students learn how to tell a story and ask questions, benefiting with greater exposure to deaf culture. Speed, conversations, signing skills, and cultural awareness are characteristic of this course.</p> <p><i> Additional required equipment includes Audio/video recording device (video camera or webcam), and required software is screen-capture software or camera (to record conversation, simple audio/video recording and editing software. This course is considered a full-year course. Recommended grade levels: 10th-11th-12th grade.</i></p>
