<p><b>World History Honors</b></p> <p>In World History, students discover the interconnectedness of world events and eras as humanity seeks to have dominion over the earth. The course emphasizes the contrast between the worldly search for selfish domination and humble dominion as a servant of God. Students learn about how the Roman Empire developed in two distinct directions. They discover the great intellectual and cultural contributions of Islamic empires and how knights and samurais lived during the Middle Ages of Europe and Japan. Students also investigate the rise and fall of some of the great kingdoms of the Americas and Africa, then travel back to the Europe of the Renaissance and Reformation era. As they dive into the Age of Discovery, students discover how the clash of eastern and western hemispheres created turbulent times.</p> <p>Students explore the blessings and instruments God has given to humanity for proper dominion of the earth, and the unfortunate results of using them selfishly. They study the advancements in science and thought during the Age of Enlightenment and the social and political revolutions that resulted. Students learn about the transformation from an agricultural to an industrial world in the nineteenth century. They then learn about the interconnectedness of nationalism and colonialism and the two massive world wars which were the end result. Finally, students learn about development in our modern world and the implications that historical events have on us today.</p> <p><i>This course is considered a full-year course. Recommended grade level: 9th-10th-11th-12th grade.</i></p>
