<p><b>Elementary Technology Grade 3</b></p> <p>Elementary Technology Grade 3 begins by discussing appropriate uses for technology. Students explore the main points of Jesus? message in the Sermon on the Mount and discover how being a good digital citizen reflects Christ to others. Students come to understand the importance of making biblically sound decisions, recognize the processes of salvation and sanctification, and explore how challenges in their lives can help them grow in their walk with Christ. The course also discusses how to stay safe in online and offline environments before moving into computer programming basics and keyboarding skills. As students learn about conditional statements, they consider what it means to make biblically sound decisions. Students learn about the benefits of technology, while also learning the importance of unplugging and being still. Students investigate adaptive technology, the importance of correct programming language, and different uses of informational technology, as well as concepts such as problem-solving and algorithms, security and privacy, and plagiarism and copyright. By the end of the course, students are able to create block-based codes using conditional statements, loops, and iterations; use debugging to fix a bug in code; and complete research using Boolean logic and keywords. Collaboration and communication are also focused on, as integrated language arts and math practice standards are found throughout the course.</p> <p><i>This course is considered a full-year course. Recommended grade level: 3rd grade.</i></p>
