<h3><strong>Course Overview</strong></h3><p><strong>Course Length: </strong>One Semester</p><p><strong>Grade Level(s): </strong>10 - 12</p><p>View samples of our high school curriculum <a href="https://www.oakmeadow.com/curriculum-samples/">here</a>.</p><p>In this single-semester climate science course students are carefully guided through the complex information and systems related to global climate change.</p><p>They learn to consider multiple ways of knowing that include scientific data-driven knowledge as well as Traditional Ecological Knowledge that is based on a long-term and profound understanding of the land and surrounding ecosystems. Students learn about factors influencing climate change and what is being done to mitigate the effects. Students develop skills in reading graphs charts and other dataset visuals.</p><p>To provide practical perspectives on adaptation and mitigation case studies are included detailing climate change impact to indigenous communities in the United States Australia the Arctic Finland Northern Africa and Ecuador.</p><p>Throughout the course is a connecting theme of how climate change affects interconnected systems and impacts communities and cultures with disproportionate effects. The final unit focuses on ways people around the world of all ages are working toward solutions.</p><h4><strong>Additional Materials Needed</strong></h4><p>The following materials are also used in this course:</p><p><a href="https://shop.oakmeadow.com/global-climate-change/tales-of-two-planets/">Tales of Two Planets: Stories of Climate Change and Inequality in a Divided World</a><br>Students will also be acquiring one additional book (cli-fi novel) on their own<br><a href="https://shop.oakmeadow.com/global-climate-change/global-climate-change-teacher-edition/">Global Climate Change in the 21st Century Teacher Edition</a> (optional but recommended)<br></p>
