<p><b>US History Half-Year</b></p> <p>What can we learn if we view the world as it was experienced long ago? What can we discover about the decisions and consequences of the generations before us? This survey course of United States history focuses on the period from the Civil War through the present, exploring and evaluating the decisions and developments of the country through a biblical lens. Students explore the ideas that freedom demands responsibility; selfishness and vengeance are poor attitudes that do not lead to reasonable solutions (i.e., pursuing justice can be done scripturally and humbly); that abiding by scriptural principles can bring prosperity that ought to be shared; that popularity does not necessarily make an idea ?right?; and that your worldview and what you place your faith in provides either hope or despair. Comparisons are made between national behavior and personal decisions to help students learn from history and apply it to their future in an appropriate way.</p> <p>US History is designed to give all students a deeper understanding of the events and people that created the United States we know today and to prepare them for future courses in history and the humanities.</p> <p><i>This course can be either the first half or second half of the traditional full-year course. Recommended grade level: 10th-11th-12th grade. Successful completion of English 1 is recommended.</i></p>
