Product description

The Dimensions Math 5A Workbook provides 218 pages of practice for first-semester fifth grade mathematics, covering whole numbers, multiplication and division of fractions, measurement, and volume of solid figures. This grayscale workbook follows Singapore Math's concrete-pictorial-abstract approach, moving students from hands-on understanding through visual representations to abstract problem-solving. Each lesson coordinates directly with the companion textbook (sold separately), with linking icons guiding students to relevant practice exercises.

The workbook uses a four-part structure designed for differentiated instruction. Basics reviews core concepts from the textbook lesson, Practice reinforces skills through additional problems, Challenge offers optional enrichment suitable for advanced students or homework, and Check provides self-assessment opportunities. Pages contain 2-10 problems rather than the dense 20+ problems typical of many workbooks, using large print for easier readability. This design reduces visual overwhelm while maintaining the same instructional depth.

Teachers and parents should note that not every student needs to complete every problem. The progressive difficulty structure allows students to work at their own pace, starting with Basics and advancing through Practice to Challenge as appropriate. Students may arrive at correct answers using different methods than those shown in the Teacher's Guide or Home Instructor's Guide (sold separately), which contains the answer key. The 5A and 5B workbooks together cover the full fifth-grade year.
