Product description
Wild Math First Grade is everything you need to teach math outdoors! Make your first grade math year active and fun in a classroom without walls! Learning outside is engaging, naturally hands-on, and uses multiple senses. Using the natural environment as the basis for your curriculum makes concepts more concrete and increases children’s attention spans. Use pinecones, rocks, or seashells to learn addition and subtraction! Play games with lawn dice and a giant 100 chart. Experiment with a variety of containers to learn about volume and capacity in the mud kitchen. Use bundles of sticks to learn place value!
The curriculum is organized around units and skills typically covered in first-grade math. Activity ideas for how to learn and practice each topic outdoors are then provided for each chapter.
Math units covered: numbers and place value, patterns, addition and subtraction facts, advanced addition and subtraction, measurement and data, time and money, and geometry.
Each unit also includes a list of math books and games at the end of each chapter. Books and games are great outside in warm weather and inside during extreme weather or dark winter evenings.
A suggested unit pacing guide, suggested plans for 40 weeks, and a blank planning sheet are included. Use as a standalone math program or as a supplement to add more hands-on and engaging activities to a more traditional program.
Learn more and see samples on our website discoverwildlearning.com. The curriculum is in a PDF format and will be sent to the email address provided when ordering. You may print for personal use or use digitally. According to US digital copyright law, digital curriculum cannot be resold.
