The Knight School Chess Afterschool Enrichment Program. Using a nationally approved curriculum developed specifically for school-aged children by Dr. David Brooks, The Knight School Chess program focuses on teaching Chess in a student-centric way to help improve critical thinking and problem solving skills; increased focus and concentration; and enhance communication skills. Additionally, as noted on the Step Up for Students website, Chess is identified as assisting in the academic success of the students featured in several of the “Student Spotlights.” Beyond the cognitive benefits, The Knight School Chess program also teaches important life skills such as patience, perseverance, and good sportsmanship. Together, these educational and social benefits of The Knight School Chess program provide valuable skills and experiences that support a child's overall educational development and academic achievements.
