<h3><strong>Course Overview</strong></h3><p><strong>Course Length:</strong> One Semester</p><p><strong>Suggested Grade Level(s): </strong>9 10</p><p><a href="https://www.oakmeadow.com/curriculum-samples/">View samples of our high school curriculum here</a>.</p><p>This single-semester course develops the tools students need to help express themselves in writing with greater clarity and effectiveness.</p><p>The first half of the course focuses on creative writing as students study literary techniques by reading stories by a variety of authors and then create their own short story. Character point of view story structure conflict settings world building plot and pacing are all explored and put into practice.</p><p>In the second half of the course students turn to nonfiction writing applying the techniques of creative writing to craft nonfiction works that are vibrant expressive and purposeful.
