The School Board of Highlands County serves students and families across Highlands County, Florida, through a variety of educational programs designed to meet diverse learning needs. Through the Highlands PLUS program, the district provides a la carte educational services and course offerings for eligible students who participate in the Florida Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES) or Florida Tax Credit Scholarship (FTC) programs and are not enrolled as full-time public school students. Highlands PLUS expands educational opportunities by allowing scholarship students to access specific courses, programs, and instructional services offered by the district while maintaining their scholarship-funded educational setting. Services may include core academic courses, career and technical education (CTE) programs, advanced coursework, workforce readiness opportunities, and other specialized learning experiences based on student eligibility and program availability. The program serves school-age students residing in Highlands County and surrounding areas who seek flexible educational options that support college readiness, career preparation, industry certification attainment, and academic advancement. Highlands PLUS reflects the district's commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities that meet the evolving needs of students and families while supporting student success beyond traditional educational models.
